59 Uplifting Gratitude Affirmations for Everyday Life

If you look through some old posts on the blog, you’ll notice I’ve been talking about cultivating a gratitude practice even as far back as 2016 (here) and 2017 (here).

But can I be really honest with you for a minute? While I’ve maintained an attitude of gratitude for most of my adult life (my mom’s big on these things!), it was not until my separation from my ex-husband in 2020 and losing a very close cousin in a freak accident in 2021 that I truly internalized it at a soul-deep level.

You see, till before that, my “give thanks” mantra was what I would now call somewhat surface-level, where it was a good habit to have and talk about. But when I saw the way my friends and family showed up for me post my separation (and eventual divorce), I realized the difference between merely giving thanks and feeling it all the way down to my bones. Losing my cousin, who will now forever be 38, was also a valuable lesson in understanding the fragility and uncertainty of life.

Today, gratitude is something that I carry deep within me. At this point, I don’t even think of it as a core value, per se. My sense of gratitude is an integral part of my identity, an ever-present touchstone, if you will.

My affirmation for gratitude is actually rather simple — I am thankful for all that I have, and all that I don’t. It doesn’t mean my life is perfect, but rather that I appreciate the things that are good, that I notice the many blessings that I do have. While it does not automatically make me a ray of sunshine (I’m really not!), it forces me to seek the good more often than the negativity.

I know some people tend to struggle with the idea of both affirmations and “practicing gratitude.” It can feel a little forced at first, like you’re pretending things are fine when they’re not. Or a little too woo-woo, like you’re trying to convince yourself of something you don’t fully believe yet.

But that’s not the point of this practice.

As I mentioned above, gratitude affirmations aren’t about ignoring the hard stuff or pretending that life is perfect. They’re about choosing to notice what’s still steady, what’s still good, even in the middle of everything else.

I’ve put together this list for the days when you need a reminder. When you’re exhausted, discouraged, or just feeling disconnected. Take what speaks to you, and feel free to change anything that doesn’t. This list isn’t definitive by any means — it’s just meant to be a starting point. Make it your own by shaping the affirmations around what’s real and true in your life.

How to Use Gratitude Affirmations

There’s no single right way to do this. The best practice is to incorporate affirmations into your life in a way that feels real and manageable. Not something that turns into another task to check off your already-full list.

You don’t need to sit cross-legged or whisper affirmations into a mirror unless that’s something you actually enjoy. What matters is making space — even briefly — to notice what’s working, what’s enough, and what deserves a quiet thank you.

Here are a few ways to begin:

  • Choose a few affirmations each morning and sit with them while you sip your coffee, brush your teeth, or just take a moment before diving into your day. Let it shape your mindset before the noise of the day creeps in.
  • Write it down in your journal or planner. Or even on a sticky note that you can stick to your laptop or mirror. Seeing it regularly can serve as a quiet nudge back to being more present.
  • Say it out loud when your thoughts feel loud and scattered. Spoken words can help ground swirling thoughts. You don’t have to be in a peaceful headspace to begin — the affirmation can help you create that space.
  • Repeat it in between everyday moments. Affirmations aren’t just for morning routines. Try them before a difficult meeting, while waiting in traffic, or before bed when your mind starts spiraling.
  • Make them your own. Again, you can use this or any other list of affirmations as a starting point, but to have them truly resonate, you should modify them to suit your needs and your reality.

Personally, I start my mornings with a short gratitude prayer, giving my thanks for a new day. Beyond that, my only real “affirmation routine” is just before I go to sleep. Depending on what I need to hear more of, I usually run through a few affirmations as soft whispers. And every once in a while, when I feel the need for a little more support, I’ll scribble a page full of affirmations in my journal.

You don’t have to feel grateful all the time for it to count. Some days, simply noticing one good thing is enough. And at the risk of being repetitive, gratitude doesn’t erase pain or fix what’s broken. But it can shift the way we move through our days. It reminds us that even when life feels upside down, there’s still something worth noticing, worth celebrating.

You’re still here, building a life that matters. And that in itself is enough to be thankful for.

If any of these affirmations spoke to you, or if you’ve created your own that feels meaningful, I’d love to hear it. Share it in the comments below! Maybe someone else needs to hear those exact words today.
